Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja to New York
Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja will meet with UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and his successor Ban Ki-moon in New York on 22 December. The discussions will focus on Cyprus, the situation in the Middle East, the crises in Sudan and Darfur, the UN reforms and Iraq. The Sudan talks will also be attended by Pekka Haavisto, the EU Special Representative to Sudan.
South Korean Ban Ki-moon will take over as UN Secretary General on 1 January, 2007, as he succeeds Ghanaian Kofi Annan who has led the world organisation for the past decade.
Foreign Minister Tuomioja will return to Finland on Saturday.
