AGRICULTURE AND FISHERIES COUNCIL IN BRUSSELS ON 18 SEPTEMBER
The meeting of the Agriculture and Fisheries Council that will take place in Brussels on Monday, 18 September, will focus on the reform of the wine sector and pesticides. The European Commission will present its proposal aimed at simplifying legislation on pesticides. The meeting will be chaired by the Finnish Minister of Agriculture, Juha Korkeaoja.

MINISTERS FOR JUSTICE AND HOME AFFAIRS IN TAMPERE ON 20-22 SEPTEMBER
EU justice and home affairs ministers will hold an informal ministerial meeting in Tampere from 20 to 22 September. The meeting will be chaired by Finnish Minister of Justice Leena Luhtanen and Minister of the Interior Kari Rajamäki.
Minister Luhtanen will lead a discussion on the future of EU judicial policy. The Presidency's goal is to reform the decision-making system, which, in its present form, hampers cooperation in justice and home affairs.
On Thursday, the ministers will discuss how to improve implementation of the EU Counter-Terrorism Strategy. Minister Rajamäki will address the issue of EU immigration management and will present a Presidency initiative on increased European solidarity with regard to immigration, border-control and asylum policies.

6th EURO-MEDITERRANEAN MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE ON INDUSTRY IN RHODES ON 21-22 SEPTEMBER
Ministers responsible for industry in EU and Mediterranean countries will meet in Rhodes, Greece, on 21-22 September 2006. Representatives of industrial organisations will also be present. The challenges of globalisation facing companies in the EU and the Mediterranean countries will be the theme for the conference, chaired by Mauri Pekkarinen, Finnish Minister of Trade and Industry and Dimitris Sioufas, Greek Minister of Development.

MINISTERS MEET IN OULU ON 24-26 SEPTEMBER TO DISCUSS THE EUROPEAN MODEL OF AGRICULTURE
The informal meeting of agriculture ministers will be assessing the selected model of agricultural policy in the EU with special focus on future challenges facing the sector. This topic is part of the overall theme of the two 2006 Presidencies: innovative, sustainable and competitive agriculture in a viable rural Europe. The meeting will be chaired by the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Juha Korkeaoja.
