THE INFORMAL ECOFIN COUNCIL CONVENES IN HELSINKI ON 8-9 SEPTEMBER

A two-day meeting of the ECOFIN Council will cover a wide range of issues including the current state of the global economy and the outlook for the future, the stability of financial markets and the institutional development of the IMF. The ECOFIN meeting will be preceded by a meeting of the Eurogroup, the twelve eurozone countries. On Friday, 8 September, live webcasts will cover the Presidency press conferences taking place at 09.00 (GMT+3), 12.30 (GMT+3) and 16.45 (GMT+3). On Saturday, 9 September, the Presidency press conference will be webcast at 13.15 (GMT+3).

EU-REPUBLIC OF KOREA SUMMIT AND EU-CHINA SUMMIT IN HELSINKI ON 9 SEPTEMBER

The EU-Republic of Korea Summit and the EU-China Summit will take place in Helsinki on 9 September. Press conferences will be webcast live on eu2006.fi at 11.45 (EU-Republic of Korea) and in the afternoon (EU-China).

ASEM 6 SUMMIT IN HELSINKI ON 10-11 SEPTEMBER 2006
 
At the ASEM 6 Summit the leaders of 38 Asian and European countries and representatives of the European Commission will meet to engage in an open and genuine dialogue under the overarching theme of "Global Challenges - Joint Responses". Summit webcasts will be available at www.asem6.fi. On Sunday, 10 September, the summit webcasts will show the opening ceremony at 14.00 (GMT+3) and the press conference by the Prime Minister of Finland at 21.45 (GMT+3). On Monday, 11 September, webcasts will cover the closing ceremony in the afternoon and the Coordinators' press conference at 17.30 (GMT+3).

EU2006.FI AT THE SERVICE OF THE MEDIA

PRESIDENCY MEETS THE PRESS ON 6 SEPTEMBER
 
On 6 September at 14.15 (GMT+2), Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen will answer reporters' questions live on TV and the web in the Presidency Meets the Press, transmitted on EbS, Europe by Satellite. The Presidency Meets the Press, produced by Finland's EU Presidency, EbS and YLE, the Finnish Broadcasting Company, will be on air once a month during Finland's Presidency. It can be viewed by anyone with access to the web or EbS satellite transmission.

Rooms for media representatives are still available in all meeting towns. Reservations should be made directly with hotels in the towns where meetings are to take place. Remember to quote the reservation code FIN06 to be given a room from the media quota with a pre-negotiated price. Cumulus Hotels have the largest number of rooms reserved for the use of media representatives attending the ASEM 6 Summit.
