JUSTICE AND HOME AFFAIRS COUNCIL (JHA) IN BRUSSELS ON MONDAY 24 JULY

At their meeting in Brussels on Monday 24 July, the EU Ministers for Justice and Home Affairs are to hold an exchange of views on the Commission's Communications concerning the review of the Hague Programme, a global approach to migration and management of migration flows.
 
Monday's meeting will be the first in a series of three Justice and Home Affairs Council meetings during Finland's EU Presidency. The meetings of the JHA Council will be chaired by Minister of Justice, Leena Luhtanen, and Minister of the Interior, Kari Rajamäki.  
 
The open session is due to start at approximately 10.00 Brussels local time (GMT+2). A recording of the session will be available for viewing from approximately 14.00 Brussels local time (GMT+2) on the Council’s Streaming Service. COMPETITIVENESS COUNCIL IN BRUSSELS ON MONDAY 24 JULY 2006

An extraordinary meeting of the Competitiveness Council is to be held in Brussels on Monday, 24 July. The meeting will focus on the 7th Framework Programme for Research, with a view to reaching a political agreement on the programme. The meetings of the Competitiveness Council will be chaired by Minister of Trade and Industry, Mauri Pekkarinen.   
 
The open session, due to run from 11.00 to 13.00 Brussels local time (GMT+2), and the press conference, to be held after the meeting at approximately 13.00, can be viewed live at eu2006.fi.


SERIES OF HIGH-LEVEL MEETINGS IN SEPTEMBER

INFORMAL MINISTERIAL MEETING: FOREIGN AFFAIRS (GYMNICH)

The informal meeting of EU Foreign Ministers (Gymnich) to take place on 1-2 September in Lappeenranta will be the first major Presidency meeting after the summer break. More information on the media programme is available under 'Media guides' at eu2006.fi. Accreditation to the meeting must take place by 24 August.


INFORMAL MINISTERIAL MEETING: ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL AFFAIRS (ECOFIN)

The informal meeting of EU Finance Ministers (Ecofin) will take place in Helsinki on 8-9 September. More information on the media programme is available under 'Media guides' at eu2006.fi. Accreditation to the meeting must take place by 25 August.


EU - REPUBLIC OF KOREA SUMMIT AND EU - CHINA SUMMIT

EU - Republic of Korea Summit and EU - China Summit will take place in Helsinki on 9 September. More information on the media programme is available under 'Media guides' at eu2006.fi. Accreditation to the meeting must take place by 25 August.


ASEM 6 SUMMIT (ASIA-EUROPE MEETING)

The ASEM 6 Summit will take place in Helsinki on 10-11 September. European and Asian Heads of State or Government will discuss ways to strengthen multilateralism, sustainable development, climate change, energy security, dialogue among cultures and civilisations, globalisation and competitiveness.
