Environment Council reached political agreement on the Marine Strategy Directive

The EU Environment Ministers held a Council meeting in Brussels on 18 December. The Environment Council reached political agreement on the Marine Strategy Directive that aims to achieve or maintain the good environmental status of European seas and oceans by 2021.
”This Directive is an important step in the protection of marine areas. It is our duty to enhance the protection of seas and oceans for future generations", said the Finnish Minister of Environment, Jan-Erik Enestam, who chaired the meeting.
