Agriculture and Fisheries Council, 19-20 December in Brussels

The Agriculture and Fisheries Council reached on Tuesday, 19 December, a general approach concerning the proposal for a Council Regulation on organic production. The chairman’s proposal bans the use of genetically modified organisms for example as foodstuff, animal feed, fertiliser or seed.
On Wednesday, 20 December, the Council confirmed the community's fishing opportunities for 2007 in the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. The meeting, chaired by Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Juha Korkeaoja, was the last Council meeting held during Finland’s Presidency of the EU.
