Lahti
Lahti is situated on the bank of Lake Vesijärvi 100 kilometres north of Helsinki. The scenery is characterised by the ridges of Salpausselkä that were formed during the ice age. Lahti is known for winter sports. It has hosted the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in 1978, 1989 and 2001. Lahti has a population of almost 100,000 and it is Finland’s seventh town.
There are frequent rail and bus connections between Helsinki and Lahti. Buses between Lahti and Helsinki-Vantaa Airport run every hour and the journey takes about 60 minutes.
Rail connections to Lahti go via the stations of Helsinki or Tikkurila. Journey time from Helsinki is 80 minutes and from Tikkurila 60 minutes. There are frequent bus connections between Helsinki-Vantaa Airport and the Tikkurila railway station.
Sibelius Hall
Sibelius Hall was built on the site of a historical industrial environment on the bank of Lake Vesijärvi. (City of Lahti)

Construction of the wood-built Sibelius Hall on a beautiful site by Lake Vesijärvi was completed in 2000. Sibelius Hall is the largest wood-built public building to be put up in Finland in the last hundred years.
